As the first crossover brass soloist to ever receive the Order of Canada, trumpeter Jens Lindemann has played both jazz and classical in every major concert venue in the world: from Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Moscow and Tokyo to Carnegie Hall. Hailed as one of the most celebrated artists in his instrument's history and named International Brass Personality of the Year (Brass Herald), Jens is a faculty member and head of Brass Studies at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. For tonight's performance, Jens will be performing with the UIndy Student Jazz Combo and the UIndy Jazz Faculty.

Her poetry collections include Small Mercies, The Burning House, and Porthole Views: Watercolors and Poems, a collaboration with artist Hazel Stoeckeler. Her poem "City Generations" is part of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. Her essays appear in CutBank, Prairie Schooner, The Human Tradition and The Vietnam War, Montana Magazine, and Consequence.

Details: We will have a special guest for this event: We are going to invite the granddaughter of María Moreno. Dr. Arriaga already contacted to her, and she is willing to come and talk with our students about her grandmother's life, and the life of Latino immigrants, and farmer workers in US.

Synopsis:
In Adios Amor, the discovery of lost photographs sparks the search for a hero that history forgot—Maria Moreno, a migrant mother driven to speak out by her twelve children’s hunger. Years before Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta launched the United Farm Workers, Maria picked up the only weapon she had—her voice—and became an outspoken leader in an era when women were relegated to the background. The first farm worker woman in America to be hired as a union organizer, Maria’s story was silenced and her legacy buried—until now.

The University of Indianapolis hosts the Edvard Grieg Society of the Great Lakes' 2019 symposium exploring the intersection of Grieg's music with fin-de-siècle French repertoire. In addition to a pre-college piano competition and lectures by experts from Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States, concerts will feature the Indianapolis String Quartet and guest performances of Grieg, Debussy, Fauré, and Ravel by pianists Emile Naoumoff and Einar Røttingen, baritone Njål Sparbo, and others. The symposium concludes on Tuesday evening, April 2, with a Ronen Chamber Ensemble concert at the Circle Theatre Wood Room on Monument Circle.
